(Tokyo, Japan) The Collectors’ Museum of Contemporary Art, WHAT MUSEUM, operated by Warehouse TERRADA, is currently hosting an exhibition titled “The lens within your heart” from the TAKEUCHI COLLECTION until February 25th (Sun), 2024. This exhibition is focusing on the collection of Shin Takeuchi, a well respected figure in the IT industry, featuring 33 contemporary artworks and 33 pieces of furniture designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and others.

The TAKEUCHI COLLECTION is a private collection of contemporary art and furniture collected over the past five years by Shin Takeuchi, Director and CTO, Visional, Inc., an IT specialist at the forefront of the industry. The collection consists of a wide range of artworks by artists emblematic of their eras, such as Yves Klein and Gerhard Richter, as well as those of eminent contemporary artists, including Wilhelm Sasnal, Jadé Fadojutimi, Izumi Kato, and Enrico Isamu Oyama.

The exhibition features 33 artworks, ranging from a work by Pablo Picasso, which inspired Takeuchi to start art collecting, to works by Yves Klein and Gerhard Richter, the artists emblematic of their respective eras, as well as abstract paintings that have captivated the collector in recent years. The exhibition also features furniture designed by architects such as Le Corbusier, one of the masters of modern architecture. There will also be a space provided exclusively for visitors to lounge on Charlotte Perriand’s chairs to appreciate the artworks, just as Takeuchi does regularly to enjoy the harmony of furniture and art. An installation consisting of 21 chairs designed by Pierre Jeanneret invites visitors to appreciate the features of each chair from different angles.

This exhibition offers an opportunity to discover new charms of the works and the delight of collecting art, through a glimpse into the present state of the TAKEUCHI COLLECTION, which continues to grow and transform.

Whenever I look at abstract art, I always contemplate why artists create such works as a result of viewing the world through the lens of their heart, although we all live in the same world and experience similar things through sight and hearing. I cannot help but wonder what their lens, shaped through their life, may look like. However, the lenses in my imagination can only be guesses based on my experiences, which might also be incorrect. If you are here today with someone to see this exhibition, I invite you to look at the artworks together and discuss what the lenses in the artists’ hearts may look like. In a way, this activity is like disclosing the lens in your own heart, which I believe will bring you even closer to each other.

[About TAKEUCHI COLLECTION / Shin Takeuchi]

After graduating from the Department of Computer Science of the University of Electro-Communications in 2001, Takeuchi joined FUJISOFT Incorporated, where he was engaged in system development mainly for government offices and major telecom companies. In 2007, he worked on the development of a company-wide common infrastructure framework at Recruit Co., Ltd. and, at the same time, started OSS activities within the Seasar Project. In 2008, he founded Lei Hau’oli Co., Ltd. He joined BizReach, Inc. from the pre-founding days and assumed the position of Director and CTO. He assumed his current position in February 2020. Outside the company, he serves as Director of the Japan CTO Association.

WHAT MUSEUM, collectors‘ museum of contemporary art, opened in Tennoz, Tokyo in December 2020. The Museum’s core work is to make the precious works of art properties that collectors and artists have entrusted to us accessible to the public. We have used our unique insight as a warehousing company to explore the concept of what an art facility should be. The result is to open up the warehouse to offer the public a look at art that they would not ordinarily have the opportunity to see. [About Warehouse TERRADA]

Established in 1950 and located in Tennoz, Tokyo, Warehouse TERRADA has since expanded into a wide range of fields, with a primary focus on the storage of artworks, which launched in 1975, as well as artwork restoration, transportation, and exhibitions. In 2014, we began operating a bonded warehouse for artworks. We established a new bonded warehouse in the spring of 2022, which we opened as a permanent bonded gallery venue that allows for viewings, storage and more under bonded conditions.
