JR Kyushu Hotels and Resorts Launches Exclusive “Stay & Stamp Challenge!” for International Travelers

The initiative enables international travelers to rediscover Japanese culture through a 15 property “Travel Passport” journey across Kyushu

FUKUOKA, JAPAN (March 4, 2026) — JR Kyushu Hotels and Resorts Co., Ltd. launches the “Stay & Stamp Challenge!” on March 16, 2026, an exclusive year-long campaign designed to transform hotel stays into cultural journeys. Drawing inspiration from the 1,300-year-old Japanese Goshuin (temple stamp) tradition, the campaign invites international visitors to collect unique stamps at 15 properties across Kyushu and select locations in Japan to earn premium rewards, including complimentary stays.

A Modern Take on a 1,300-Year-Old Tradition

The “stamp rally” tradition originated from shrine and temple pilgrimages more than 1,300 years ago, where travelers received ink-brush calligraphy and stamps called “Goshuin”, as proof of their visit. Today, this practice has evolved into a unique form of entertainment that turns regional travel into a “treasure hunt.”

As travelers around the world increasingly share their collections via #Stamprally on social media, JR Kyushu Hotels and Resorts aims to bring this authentic experience to global guests. “In this digital age, we want our guests to take home physical memories,” said a company spokesperson. “We hope this stamp booklet becomes a cherished treasure of their journey through Japan.”

How the Challenge Works

Participating is designed to be a seamless part of the travel experience:

・Start the Journey: International guests receive one of 50,000 limited-edition stamp booklets at check-in (one per room).

・Collect and Explore: Guests collect original stamps at each of the 15 eligible properties, ranging from urban hotels to hot spring resorts.

・Redeem Rewards: Upon reaching milestones of 3, 5, or 15 stamps, guests present their booklet at the front desk and register via QR code to claim rewards on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rewards and Milestones

The campaign offers tiered incentives to encourage deep regional exploration:

3 Stamps: Original Tenugui (traditional Japanese towel) for the first 1,000 groups.

5 Stamps: A complimentary stay at a participating property for the first 50 groups.

15 Stamps: A complimentary premium stay at a participating property for the first 10 groups.
